Gary Holmes
Gary is a highly experienced commercial leader with a career spanning over four decades in sales, operations, and business management. Based in Essex and a proud father of four and grandfather of five, he has built a reputation for delivering results across a range of sectors from FMCG and retail distribution to utilities and travel.
He began his career in the supermarket sector, progressing from shop assistant through a management training programme to holding multiple department management roles across Southend and Canning Town. He went on to join Palmer & Harvey, where he spent many successful years in sales and operations, eventually managing multiple distribution units and developing deep expertise in commercial strategy and logistics management.
His leadership journey continued at Boots the Chemist, where he served as Operations Manager across major distribution centres in Hinckley and Letchworth, overseeing large-scale teams and complex supply chain functions. While at Letchworth, he successfully delivered a £2 million automation project, maintaining business continuity and client satisfaction throughout.
He later held senior roles at British Gas, where he managed key national accounts – most notably Southern Water, earning recognition for outstanding service delivery. Following this, he joined Bidvest as an Operations Manager in their fresh food division, before transitioning into entrepreneurship by launching a successful travel franchise, combining a passion for service with international experience.
Gary brings critical strength in sales leadership, commercial development, and M&A strategy to HSH. His ability to assess opportunities, build strong client relationships, and lead through change is instrumental in driving the group’s acquisition strategy and long-term growth plans.
Julian Stevens
Julian is an experienced finance professional with deep expertise in commercial banking, trade finance, and structured funding solutions. Based in Bristol, he is a father of two who enjoys travelling, hiking, and running in his downtime. Over the past two decades, Julian has built a strong track record helping businesses access and manage capital across a wide range of sectors.
He began his career with HSBC in Bristol, working across retail banking and progressing into international finance roles, where he handled foreign exchange, international payments, and trade finance instruments. He later joined HSBC’s trade finance team in Cardiff, structuring facilities for SMEs engaged in global trade.
In 2006, Julian moved to Barclays, providing trade and invoice finance to business clients across the South West. He continued to grow his leadership credentials when he joined Santander Commercial Banking in 2014, leading their Trade and Working Capital team in the region. During this time, he supported clients with complex international growth strategies taking businesses into markets such as China, Dubai, South America, and the United States.
Since 2019, Julian has operated as a commercial finance broker at Blaise Commercial Finance, helping clients secure funding from both high street banks and the alternative lending market. His work includes financing for growth, turnaround, and acquisitions, particularly for businesses underserved by traditional finance channels. He also co- owns Rockfield Homes, a property development business operating in the South West.
Julian leads the financial strategy and funding structures behind HSH’s acquisitions. His role includes overseeing financial operations across the portfolio and ensuring the group’s investments are underpinned by robust, scalable financial planning.
Paul Holmes
Paul is an experienced engineering and operations professional with a strong background in manufacturing, innovation, and business transformation. Holding a degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Paul has spent over 25 years working across FTSE 100 companies, global engineering organisations, and high-growth technology firms. His work has included managing complex capital projects, leading operational teams, and delivering process improvement and systems integration across a range of industrial settings. This grounding enables him to bring a practical, systems-based approach to strategic and operational challenges, and his strengths lie in governance, project oversight, and aligning operations with long-term strategic goals.
As Founder and Managing Director of PCH Business Consultants, Paul draws on this depth of experience to support SMEs and scaling businesses across sectors. Since 2016, he has delivered targeted consultancy, business development support, and strategic guidance to firms navigating growth, restructuring, and change. He has also worked extensively with Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and Growth Hubs supporting hundreds of businesses through one-to-one consultancy, coaching, and leadership development programmes.
Earlier in his career, Paul served as Director of Investment at Swindon Borough Council and the Swindon & Wiltshire LEP, leading regional economic development, EU-funded business support initiatives, and investor engagement strategies.
Paul is a well-established Non-Executive Director and strategic advisor, contributing to the development of social enterprises, CICs, charities, and commercial organisations. Deeply committed to education and community, Paul is a founding director of the University Technical College Swindon, serving for over a decade as Vice Chair of Governors, and has led major community initiatives such as Swindon175 and projects under the High Sheriff of Wiltshire.
Paul leads HSH’s operational strategy, and his background in engineering, operations, and strategic transformation is central to HSH’s approach to value creation. HSH’s first acquisition, Rossco, is already seeing tangible benefits from Paul’s input – streamlined processes, enhanced efficiency, and a sharper commercial focus are helping unlock the company’s next stage of growth.
